Privacy Policy

Messages (SMS) · Last updated: 9 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Messages app (“the app”, “we”) handles your information. We built the app to be private by design: your messages stay on your device.

The short version: The app does not collect, upload, sell or share your personal data. Everything the app needs to work stays on your phone.

Information we do not collect

Permissions and how they are used

To function as your SMS app, Android requires certain permissions. Each is used only on your device, only to provide the feature described:

On-device intelligence

Smart features such as suggested replies and message categorization run entirely on your device. The message text used for these features is processed locally and is not sent to us or to any third party.

Data storage

Your messages are stored by Android’s system message storage on your device. App preferences (such as theme and pinned or archived chats) are stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes these local preferences.

Data sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties. Text messages you send are delivered through your mobile carrier’s network, as with any SMS app; message delivery is handled by your carrier under their terms.

Children’s privacy

The app is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
